[The Narrator disappearing is slightly startling, but it's not like he hasn't dealt with other people disappearing on him before. Juno keeps his eye on the man, trying to stay out of sight.
He doesn't recognize this man, but he doesn't have to in order to know who he is. Roswell Chavez, previous CEO of Ares Ammunition, back when the War was still raging and before the company went out of business. That didn't stop him from still doing business with the Outer Rim and earning a few million creds here and there. Knew how to keep his business quiet, but not quiet enough for Rita to find out.
After a few more glances, the man relaxes and pulls a set of comms out from his pocket and holds it up to his ear. Juno's brow furrows. He can't hear what's being said--if only he can get closer....
Oh, wait.]
Pst. You think you can try and hear what he's talking about?
[He feels sort of stupid, whispering to the air like this when he doesn't even know if the Narrator is still there.]
[If Juno were to ask, this is actually a big reason why The Narrator decided to visit him. Not that he had any idea what Juno was investigating beforehand, but he adores the strange and macabre, and while "true crime" is a little low on his interest, it's still enough to keep him from getting bored.
The Narrator watches the man intently, to the point he's a little surprised when Juno addresses him. Still invisible, he whispers back at him.]
Of course.
[Wouldn't it be hilarious if he just bailed on Juno though?
He floats over to the man. Of course he still can't hear what's on the other end (well, maybe he can by possessing the communicator, but he hadn't tested this and as apathetic he is about all of this he's not a jerk and risk anything by an experiment), but he still is able to listen to Chavez's side.
The man explains to the other person that he made it to the location without being followed, his words were cryptic enough that The Narrator couldn't get a perfect idea of what's going on, except for one important line:
"It's going to be a quick in and out thing, once we get him it'll all be over"
Chavez soon hangs up and the Narrator floats back to Juno, whispering in his ear.]
Unless he has a strange choice of words, I think he's going to kill someone.
[Juno's eyebrows furrow as he listens to the Narrator. He watches as Chavez closes his comms and tucks them back into his pocket. The man's boots click against the pavement as he opens the trunk of his car to reveal an arsenal of weapons that could probably be used to supply a small army. Juno sucks in a breath, his eye locked on Chavez as he picks up a high-caliber laser pistol and weighs it carefully in his hand.]
Dammit. Hoped that maybe I'd have more time to wrap up this stupid case, but if Chavez wants to act now...well, I can improvise.
[He just needs to somehow get evidence of this attempted murder without actually having anyone...you know, actually die. Which will be quite difficult, given the fact Chavez mentioned back-up.
With a loud thunk, Chavez closes the car trunk and tucks the blaster into a shoulder holster. He approaches a closed warehouse door and, after glancing over his shoulder, inputs a four digit code and slips inside. Juno jumps out from the alleyway, sprinting full speed towards the closing door. He won't make it, and he knows it.
And then he skids to a stop, looking back at the Narrator with an expression of dawning realization.]
Wait. You're a ghost. [Obviously.] What kind of spooky shit can you do?
[The Narrator looks thoughtful. Sure, he could think of a few ways to stop him, but he's still not super fond of the idea of changing fate of anything.
... But then again, he probably gave up the idea of being an observer the moment he killed Angus.
The Narrator rubs his chin as he thinks of his options.]
I have a few tricks up my sleeve. [Beat.] But what's in it for me to risk my afterlife
[He's just being a jerk, as evidence by the smirk he's giving Juno.]
[Juno stares at the Narrator, fixated on that uncharacteristic smirk on his face. If anything, the Narrator showing any sort of external emotion makes him feel...unnerved. But, hey, maybe a few months floating between dimensions made him less aloof.]
Seriously? [He lets out a scoff.] I dunno, what could a ghostly eldritch being want from a mere mortal? Maybe the idea of saving some innocent man's goddamn hide?
[He turns back towards the now closed door, his eyebrows furrowed. He doesn't have time for this, right now--he needs to get inside and stop whatever plan is being put into place before it's too late.]
[Juno rolls his eyes. Great--a few months between dimensions, and the only thing the Narrator learned was how to be more conceited. At least while he's ghosting, Juno doesn't have to look at that smug face as much.
An unwelcome thought makes its way into his mind following that previous sentence, but he pushes it away just as quickly.
He winces slightly as he hears the door creak open. A few chattering voices suddenly fall silent. Juno slowly slips into a darker corner, trying to remain hidden.]
[His voice is also in a whisper. Despite how relaxed he seemed about all of this, he really didn't want to screw Juno over. If he was going to be an active participant more often, he might as well try to help those who amused him.]
[Juno nods, grimacing as he glances around a metal shelf filled with miscellaneous boxes. You know, as warehouses do.]
Right. See if you can go around the other way, cover me from another angle. I'm going to see what's up.
[He pulls out his laser blaster, double checking that it has laser cartridges and powering it up quietly. He starts quietly stalking the path between two shelves, trying to keep a low profile. As he walks, he can hear quiet discussion between several people.]
--Pat didn't find nothin', must've been nothin'.
You don't think we oughta do a scan, just in case? I mean--
We're already risking too much being here. Just get it over with.
[Juno quickens his pace ever so slightly. Dammit. They're running out of time, here.]
